Our Schools Safe Boating Programme has got off to a flying start this week with 136 children from Wellington and Hutt Valley schools taking part.
What a week they have had with this great spring weather for a Wellington November, and it looks to be continuing.
The programme includes a 45-minute classroom session and a 90-minute practical session which can be Sailing, Kayaking or Sup boarding. The safety briefing introduces them to life jackets, equipment, and understanding how important the weather considerations are. What kind of emergencies can be expected, survival procedures, hypothermia and most important water confidence.
This has been made possible by the generous funding and continued support from Lion Foundation and Wellington Communities Trust.
